GoDot-Template

This is a basic template for a Godot project. It contains all the milestones and documentation needed to guide you through your own Godot project.

Notes

  • Make sure you fill out the Game Development Documentation as you brainstorm your game project. This keeps everyone onboard of the current project goal and helps centralize the documentation.
  • Proper development also means multiple branches. A quick and dirty way will be to make a prototype branch so that your level designer(s), artist(s), and/or management(s) can check on current progress while your programming team can flesh out a test build before fully committing the build.
  • If you are starting the build from scratch, you will want to delete everything in this repository before pushing to it. Otherwise, you will be stuck in limbo for lord knows how long. Otherwise, just clone this repository into your local storage before starting a new project in Godot.

Usage

At the moment, just add the template to your repository with everything selected, and go to the GoDot recipe for quick help. The milestones included is a basic step-by-step process on how to build your game from start to finish. Currently, the projects included are sorted into 4 main categories for different departments.

If you start seeing a lot of dependencies sitting under the same project, you should create a new project and tag the title with the proper department, and put all the dependencies into the new project. This will help you keep track of smaller, temporary dependencies. An empty project for the greybox level is set up as an example project for how it should be done.
